We are so excited with the arrival of the Changing Seasons mini skein packs from Wonderland Yarns! The project will be one of those that adjusts per the temperature! The project can be crocheted OR knitted - and will use either a H hook or a US6 needle. Oh - not sure which craft to pick.
For the knitting project, Whatever the Weather, you can knit a scarf, shawl or blanket, and the Changing Seasons Crochet Project aims to be a ??. Anticipate that you will need one of each color pack (e.g., Icy, Mild, and Hot). As I am in South Texas - may not get a lot of the icy temps, but can if I switch to my temps in celcius for January and/or February!
Here are a few FAQs from Wonderland Yarns:
We have really loved hearing what questions you all have had since announcing this year-long project! It has helped us hone into what you needed to know going forward! Here are the top questions we've had so far:
- What will we be making? It's a mystery! We haven't released any specifics on pattern design, but we CAN say that it isn't a blanket or a scarf.
- I'm not big on a mystery, can I make something else? Absolutely! We have a blanket pattern we plan on releasing as well. You also don't have to follow our patterns, choose any pattern you like and you can still be a part of the fun!
- How many packs will I need? We anticipate you will need at least 1,110 yards.. but you may want or need some extra. ;) This will be about 3 packs - each Mad Hatter pack has 430 yards - but depending on the weather it may take extra.
- I'm new to knitting/crochet, will I be able to join in? YES! We are planning stitches that crafters of all levels can join in! We may have some 'challenge' rows/stitches so you can expand your stitch-ionary, though. Our Mystery KAL is actually going to have 2 different options for knitters of all levels to choose their design.
- Where can I find the pattern? There will be multiple outlets for you to keep up with the pattern. It will NOT be a downloadable pattern until 2022 sometime. We have set up a Ravelry make-along group that everyone is welcome to join, there will be a page on our website as well that will feature our pattern updates, and each update will be announced on our Instagram and Facebook pages. At this time we are unsure if we will add email into the mix, but we are considering a monthly update.
- If I get my yarn after Jan. 1, will I be able to still participate?Again, YES! These patterns will be based on the daily temperatures, so all you need to do is look back at your day, week, month, etc. to figure out what you need to do to catch up. You're even welcome to do the average temps (instead of highs-lows) to make things simpler.
- Do I need anything else to join in? Yes. You will need the appropriate hook/needle sizes for whichever version you intend to make, scissors, a trusted weather website/record keeping book for temperatures, and stitch markers.
