Ancient Art's theme for 2024 is an exploration of "Flowers in Artwork," blending the timeless beauty of flowers with the expressive power of art. Flowers have been more than just subjects on a canvas; they've been storytellers, capturing the essence of cultural traditions, styles and emotions. They represent life's fleeting beauty and have been a source of inspiration and joy for artists and admirers alike.

Below follows the email details on this colorway from Ancient Arts:

Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) was an American painter and printmaker known for her association with the Impressionist movement. She spent much of her adult life in France, where she became close friends with many leading Impressionist artists, including Edgar Degas and Berthe Morisot.

Cassatt's significance in the world of art extends beyond her revolutionary role as a female artist in a predominantly male art world at that time. She is famous for her  portrayal of women's domestic lives, showing the average woman in daily activities. Her most famous works usually feature mothers and their children.

Cassatt's technical expertise is seen in a rare still-life painting, "Lilacs in a Window," which showcases her mastery of luminous color and loose, expressive brushwork. Departing from the typical formality associated with still-life genres, she introduces dynamic angles in the background, crafting a casual yet vivid frame reminiscent of real life. Despite the vase being shadowed, its form remains distinctly rendered and the hundreds of delicate lilac blossoms are masterfully suggested, layered in hues of purple, violet, and lavender.
